Poem

http://hellopoetry.com/poem/184012/woodsman/

I was originally going to use this poem off a website, however not knowing wether it was copyright free or not I tried to contact the writer. He has not got back to me and I can’t afford to waste time. Ive come to the conclusion I will have to write my own.

I want to include a few main things and characteristics of my uncle to make it give a emotive feel:

  • Sound of wood cracking
  • Rain in the trees
  • Hobnobs

First draft:

One thing I never get tired of is the cheeky robin chirping on a winters morning.

Feeling the way a new bow jolts as its first arrow sets loose.

Spoon making is something I enjoy teaching to all ages.

Theres nothing I like more than to light a charcoal kiln and see the plume of smoke drift in to the sky.

My favourite tree is the walking tree because I relate to it, it moves around the woods slowly spreading its branches.

Its the tree of a thousand uses.

Spring is my favourite time of the year, its a new start.

A fresh cycle. This job allows me to teach enthusing people, wildlife and the sustainability of coppicing.

Didn’t choose this path, it chose me.

I can’t say what would have happened if I didn’t do this work, but most who know me would.

Because Ynot?

I sent my first draft to my uncle and he didn’t want much changing, because I wanted it to sound like something he wold say I asked him to think of anything to add. Heres the final draft of the poem.

Final draft:

Today; Into the woods.

One thing I never get tired of is the cheeky robin chirping on a winters morning.

Feeling the way a new bow jolts as its first arrow sets loose.

But my work isn’t all about trees.

This job allows me to teach people about wildlife — sustainability — coppicing.

Didn’t choose this path, it chose me.

I can’t say what would have happened if I didn’t do this work, but most who know me would.

When the coppice unlocked on my door, I thought, Ynot?
