Mark Millar – CAF

Mark Millar is a Scottish comic book writer most famous for Kick Ass, Kingsman and his involvement with the marvel comics. Millar’s first comic was the The Amazing SpiderMan. Millar has named Alan Moore and Frank Miller as the two biggest influences on his career. Although Millar enjoyed drawing comics, he was not allowed to go to art school due to his family not seeing that he could get a future, and saying it was a ‘waste of time.’

When Millar was 18 he interviewed the writer Grant Morrison. Millar told Morrison that he wanted to be a writer and an artist , Morrison said he should do both and states this is the best advice he has ever had. His first comic he worked on was Tridents Saviour. In 2001 Millar launched The Ultimate X-Men which allowed him to future and write in Marvels biggest comics and films. In 2004 he released MillarWorld which is his own co-owned company that went on to release Wanted and Kick Ass. Millar has said that whenever he sells the film adaptation rights, he gives half of the money to the artist who illustrated the comics. With this he said ‘Everything, all the money from the advance, the toys, the games, 50-50, so it’s fair.’

In June 2013, Millar was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)
