Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.41.21 AMI like how she has made the titles. I like how she has incorporated things of her grandmothers and how she uses her nickname, this adds more emotion to the film because it is on a personal level. However I don’t like how the font blends in to the background, this takes away how much it means to her because it isn’t bold and showing that the titles are the most important thing in the shot. If you take away the titles it shows a piece of her grandmother in the sense of she liked floral patterns and Gold jewelry, this adds more connection to her grandmother than if the screen was a plain color

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.42.00 AMShe uses still family photos and photos of her grandmother to show her past and how things have changed. She shows the beautiful things her grandmother has done and the colors in the photos change showing how they have aged and how things, such as cameras have changed. This shows the audience that her grandmother has adapted and changed as time has passed.  These photos change so fast that you don’t really notice details. This is similar to time lapses which will show time passing in a different way which adds interest to the film. In my film I’m going to use photos at a slower pace.

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.41.43 AMI love this shot because it shows what the girl is talking about in a beautiful VISUAL way. She could have had more photos, but because she uses stop motion showing the speech it makes it connect more to the viewer. I also like how she made the palm readers hand complicated, maybe symbolising a wild and action filled life. And the contrast to the christian hand showing only god matters. The contrast of the hands against the background makes her hands look more prominent, also the black ink on her hands make it stand out so it is eye catching.

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.42.41 AMI like how this shot is all dark tones and the bike is the only real color. It makes your eye focus on the bike which is what she is talking about in the voice over. The colors contrast really well, which emphasizes and reflects her grandmothers colorful and wild life on the bike, which is now the girls. This shot is filmed in time lapse, again to show time passing and it makes the film more unique because most people would just film time lapses out of easiness

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.42.31 AMAgain family photos give the viewer an insight to the persons past which allows them to feel more emotion towards the film. We don’t know who the others in the photo are which makes us ask questions, again engaging the viewers more. I like how grainy and worn the photos look in this. It gives the film and old fashioned feel.

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.43.02 AMUsing images and objects of her grandmother makes everything more literal. Which works in the kind of way of evidence to what she is talking about. It adds scale to how many labels, letter and photos she had kept. It also shows how much the girl cared about her grandmother because she has kept all her things. The amount of labels and letters is overwhelming which shows he grandmothers organized life, which contrasts with those photos showing her grandmother had many characteristics.

Screen Shot 2016-06-08 at 11.43.16 AMIn the beginning of the film this image is shown without the girl in it she then shows it at the end with her in the shot. The girl is trying to show that she wants to be with her grandmother still and that she wishes she is by her side. This also shows that she looks up to her grandmother because she is looking directly at her with love in the photo. The waves fill the rest of the screen because her grandmother loved the sea, which is a recurring theme throughout the film.

The credits in this film     it is a stop motion of the books moving in and out of the bookshelf. I think that this makes the credits more exciting, however i think that the books moving distracts the viewer from the titles. Despite this i think the old fashioned font and whit writing makes the text more bold. It also has an aspect of her grandmother because it is old fashioned.

Conclusions:

This film is powerful because it shows the life of her grandmother. It gives her dignity and respect in the way the girl talks about her. I like how she uses lots of quick cuts to show how fast life goes. I think this is really symbolic and the deeper meaning is that life is too short so you have to do what you want before it ends.

This film represents living life to the fullest and doing as many things true to you that you can. I think I’m going to use her voice in this as a main point for my film. This is because it sounds so rich in your ears and sounds like she is next to you talking directly to you. This makes the film more emotional because it feels more direct to you. For example i’m going to record my sound behind a screen in a small area so you can hear how my voice bounces off the walls and makes it more emotive.

This film balances life with loss which is an beautiful thing to capture. She doesn’t do this in a sad way which makes you feel more empathy and she is showing the happiness of her grandmothers life, giving her respect and dignity about the film.
